Anyway To-Day Was More Endur- able than Yesterday, Thanks to Gen. Humidity. HOURLY TEMPERATURE. D Time. Dearees, eres es ite i 00. To-day 1s the hottest day of the year 1895, The records for the day, year have been broken. The yearly recod was broken at 12.20, when the temperature reached % de- Rrees, one degree higher than the here- tofore warmest day of 1895—May 31. An a climax to this comes the an- nouncement that while we are swelter- ing here in New York, in Salt Lake City there is a snowstorm, ‘The temperature to-day has not only broken the record for Sept. 21, but the record for the month and year as well. The highest ever recorded for the month was Sept. 13, of this year, when it registered 93, It has already reached ‘three degrees higher than that and Sergt. Dunn thinks it has attained the high notch and will now drop gradually, Mr. Dunn says the warm wave is certral along the border of the Middle Atlaatic States, with the highest tem- perature at New York. The wave ex- | tends southwest to Virginia. | At 8 o'clock this morning it registered 82 degrees in Philadelphia, Atlantic City and Norfolk, The greatest change in twenty-four hours was along the Middle Atlantic and New England States, where the temperature went up from 10 to 18 de- grees. Tt was 12 degrees warmer here at 8 o'clock this morning than at the same hour yesterday, when It stood at 68. |'To-day it was 80 degrees and within two hours had climbed nine degrees. The highest record for Sept. 21 in the |ntstory of the Weather Bureau prior | to to-day was in 1891, when the tempera- | ture reached 85 degrees, | “The warm wave,” he ald, “is due |to an area of low pressure from the | northwest combining with an area of high pressure on the South Atlantic coast. While It will be warm to-mor- row, It will be a trifle cooler than to- j day.” | Mr, Dunn also sald there was no cool | wave in sight, but the heighth of the | warm spell would be reached Jatter which it will gradualy become | cooler. | In the Northwest, particularly the} Dakotas, where the people have been! suffering from an excessively hot spell, there has been a drop in the tempera- | ture of from ten to twenty-four de- | grees. | The humidity to-day averages about {10 per ce month and t, against an average of 73 per cent yesterday RAWLINS, Wyo., Sept. 21—A_heavy northeast snow storm began at an early hour this morning Snow is elght inches deep on the level and It is still snowing. to-day, | | never repeats and never nods. Often you wonder why It Is that invariably and automatically buy the Sunday World and sniff at all the othe Sunday papers, Editors of other Sunda papers wonder why that is also, Nave been told this week, The § World ts a newspaper of “Neve never appears without putting al oth: you They day It rheets entirely in the shade, It never fails to stir tho blood, It neyer “ails to surprise and never to gratify. it never contains less than four » of pure and chaste humor. vou anything that less you are supernaturally learned, It never tells 1 knew before, in- at Sometimes we are almost sorry to tell In advance about the wonderful features that we have bought with to’! brains and morey, We say to oursel 3 We only want intelligent readers. All Intel- Hgent men are getting the paper as fast as they can, Why should we tell of these fine features in advance and worry the poor little editors who know nothing about their business and try in vain to imitate us?” This week we have # good deal to ray about women. We aways say a good deal about women, but to-morrow you will find us even more versatile than vaual in that line, Dr, Forbes Winslow, a ecientist, mind you, and a truly great man, has taken the trouble to write for women about themselves, He pities the case of the two millions of unmarried females and tells them what they can do, He writes three columns, and the woman who does not read it to-morrow may count that day lost as soon as she seca its low, descending sun, Forbes Winslow thinks that women can compete with those of the opposite sex, and he is an English- map at that But we have a better story about women. It is the story of the wonder- ful California murder, told fully for the first time, We have more about dying Armenia in the Sunday World, It is an appeal written by that sincere patriot Herant Mesrob Kiretchjian, The great Atlanta Exposition ts prop- erly described in the Sunday World. It will not be so described in any one of the Sunday World's feeble imitators. You may lay to that, as Stevenson would say. There is a midway plaisance at At- lanta, And the scientists have disco ered the microbe of fertility. The ed- {tors of the Sunday World, who have to be fertile in fdeas, have got two cans of the microbes with them and this edition of the paper gets the benefit. Col. Ingersoll is now sorry that he did away with hell, He has had his pocket picked and does not know, under the circumstances, how the thief is to be Punished, It is thought by his friends that the pocket picking may be the en- tering wedge to his conversion. He tells about the sad event in the only paper that amounts to anything. Speaking of girls, there's a picture of a Salvation Army girl on horseback that 1s worth framing. She looks a good deal more attractive than Wash- ington crossing the Delaware. What do you think of a modern jail, with gratings on the cells like the gates on ferry-boats? There 1s one well de- scribed in the Sunday World with a gen- tleman behind the bars. Nym Crinkle fs abcut the best all- around writer in New York. He knows more than most men about most things, and that fs al! you can ask. In addition to that, he is versatile, brilliant and pro- Iific. He tamed the microbe of fertility, and had him tethered in his back yard years ago, This week he writes a plain statement of our currency muddle and for the first time in your life you will know something about tt, We want you to know that we are not only brilliant, but also thorough, ‘To-morrow in print sixteen pictures of the falling of a drop of water into a glass of milk, We tell you about Parisian Turkish baths for horses, about a new and very queer religious female sect, about the way to fight weevils, about the Joyful news that the cropping of dogs’ ears is to cease, about glass coffins and moume-traps, and about the true blue Puritan Sunday, all on one of the Sunday World's dozens of pages. the Sunday World we | AMERICANITIS.
