Anthony Comstock, the executive agent of the Society for the Suppression Vice, who was accused by two Lexow Mitnesses of having extorted a ‘bribe f $1,000 from them for procuring a dis- missal of an indictment against one of them, and which testimony was after- ward stricken from the record, was also in attendance before the Grand Jury. Mrs, Mary Stacom, for twenty-five Keni a disorderly house keeper in the ‘enderloin Precinct, was taken {nto the Grand Jury room in great ex itement, id_these incidents and the reappear: ce of Mrs, Augusta Thurow, the chief Witness against the police of the East Fifth street station, bode no good to whilom and present corrupt police off- cers Tt in said Mrs. Thurow will be a witness before tha Grand Jury to- morrow. ts. Included in the figures are Capts. Mar- tens, Slevin, Price and Meakim. Capt. * Gallagher, who has been on the sick list several days, reported for duty last night. Inspector Conlin visited Capt. yesterday, and reported that he was langerously ill. He said Meakim was weak, very much emaciated and the Inspector is impressed from the Cap- tain's appearance, with a belief that the ease requires the most medical | treatment and nursing to da fatal termination, LEXOW SEES STRONG. Discussed Big Bilin to Heantrodwcca Next Thursday, For an hour and a half this forenoon Benator Clarence Lexow and W, Travers Jerome, assistant counsel to the Lexow Committee, sat in the stifling a.mo phere of the Mayor's office and talked with Mayor Strong. It was apparent from the earnestness of the conversation that a momentous Question was being discussed. ‘After the conlerenes neither | Mr. Jerome nor Senator Lexow would state What the conference was about except in the most general way. The Power of Reme new Police Magistrates bill formed the chief topic for discussion, and there Were several other matters of import- nce talked about, the exact nature of Which could not be learned. Mr, Jerome expressed himself as much | Felleved to get out into the open air After the long seance with His Honor, With the thermometer at § degrees, Senator Lexow said that he would in- troduce both the Power of Kemoval and the Police Magistrates bills probably sd; ae Senavor M.
