Government and used ex@usively in all Regal Shoe Stores. ON opt 2°° AVE thr NEAR UNION OPP ARCADE BLDG yres a mS Ay A) I Spent $100,000 to take the Guess. out of Shoe Fitting When Uncle Sam called 5,000,000 men to the training camps, and had to fit them with new shoes so they could walk all day with a rifle on their shoulder and a 50-pound pack on their back, he got more knowledge and experience in fitting shoes in three years than all the shoe salesmen in the world had accum ulated in three centuries. I gave up my job as President of this Com- pany and accepted a new position to: help Uncle Sam establish Training Schools for Officers over here, and over there, to teach men how to fit shoes in the training camps. Surveys made in eight camps showed that 41,852 out of 58,706 were fitted from % to 314 sizes short, before the Resco Foot Measuring Machine, which I invented and presented to the Government, was officially adopted by the United States Army, September 20, 1918. Now, what was the trouble, and what is the answer? 8 The old-fashioned method of trying to fit shoes by measuring the length of one foot with a size stick when you are sitting down, is a guessing contest from start to finish. The Foot Rule is no relation to the Size Stick. I can’t find anybody who knows what the unit of measurement of the size stick represents. Some say it’s a Barleycorn. If your foot measured size 6 on the size stick, it would measure about 1014 inches on a foot rule, and the salesman would tell you that you should wear anything from a 7 to an 8). He never attempts to measure the width of the foot with the old-fashioned size stick— so that’s all a pure guess. And furthermore, he only measures one foot, and every man in the training camps had two feet, and the right width of both feet is just as important as the correct length. We took all the guess out of fitting shoes for the soldier when we first used the RESCO Fitting Machine to measure the length and width of both feet when he was standing up with a pack on his back. From Maker to Wearer REGA Regal Factories, Whitman, Mass, When you stand up in this new RESCO Twin-Foot Fitting Machine, it automatically and accurately measures the length and width of both feet at the same time. The delicate mechanism is scientifically ad- justed to measure the foot expansion and reg- ister the length and width of the shoe required to properly fit both stocking feet when the “standing weight” is placed on the sensitive springs. Now, just for the fun of it, if you want to make a shoe salesman stutter, ask him what the unit of measurement in the size stick means. Ask him why he doesn’t give you the size you actually measure on the size stick. Ask him why he only measures the length of one foot while you are sitting down, when the only time ‘you use your feet is when you are standing up, and then you like to use both feet. Ask him if he knows that the Army Survey shows that in measuring both feet, in 60% of the cases the left foot is larger than the right, and 40% of the measurements show the right foot is larger than the left. Ask him if it wouldn’t be more sensible to measure the length and width of both feet while you are standing up, before he starts to jump up a ladder to get a size he guesses might fit one foot. I couldn’t get a satisfactory answer to any of these questions, that’s why I have spent the last five years in improving the machine that I designed for the Army, to take the guess out of fitting your feet. The RESCO Shoe Fitting System is now in- stalled in every Regal Shoe Store from Coast to Coast, and if you would like to know the correct length and width of both feet under the weight of the body, you are cordially in- vited to come into any Regal Store at any time, without any obligation to purchase. e President Regal Shoe Company From Coast to Coast Stores in All Principal Cities 1118 Second Avenue Next to Strand Theatre (Men's and) Women’s) Tacoma Storce—940 Pacific Avenue HOES : , f! al segemerce . sings Soon Disappears nceuratn cx ‘ the Saxomp, tt os stays for one Inclusive, mod- requirements ¢ an None erate. price. ships One Man that Kipli ‘ p k of Pook!
