Cynthia Grey: Girl Spreads Good Cheer in Hospitals—Finds Pa-| thetic Subject and Helps Him to Cast Blue Devils b) Aside—He Loves Her Now and Wants to Sacrifice |¥ Her Life for His Happiness. ¥ BY CYNTHIA GREY Dear Miss Grey: Will you please give me a little advice? I have asked mother to help out, but neither of us seem to find a satisfactory solution to my problem. If two heads are better than one, why should not three be even better? | I have been visiting the hospitals trying to spread a little cheer. At one I found a boy, half dead, not caring whether! he lived or not. I did my best to convince him that life is _ Teally worth while and I succeeded. He is convalesci ing | j _ Yapidly. But in the meantime he has grown to love me. He asked me to marry him just the other day. The doctors say I was the main factor in his recovery, and that if I refuse he might die. His mother has begged me to accept him. I would gladly make the sacrifice, only I am already en- gaged. I have put the question up to “him” and he said if § I married someone else he'd be liable to get sick and die. And I love my man, Miss Grey. I am torn between pity and love. I thought at first the sick man would soon get over it, but it doesn’t seem that way. I thought if I didn’t see him, he might forget me, but I got a hurried call from the nurse telling me to come down at once that her patient was restless and might do himself injury. I am young yet, just /20, and I am not wise enough to de- cide. What should I do? BETWEEN TWO FIRES, Happiness, the real article, is largely a state of mind- eeeernently it must spring from within ourselves. The per- cient unto himself has the largest measure 8, because he has been wise enough to create it—that, no one can rob him of. If you have been simply a good friend, have encouraged the young man in the hospital in no way, he is presuming too much. He is the one who needs to figure out the prob- lem. If he would attempt to gain his happiness at the ex- pense of others, when he attained it he would find it merely an empty shell. If the facts are merely as you state them in your letter, I} do not see that there any problem at all. Marry the man you love and have given your promise to, of course.
