Now comes Mr. Kinnear, who says he is secretary of the Seattle Retail Grocers’ Association, with a threat. He telephoned to the writer what measures he would take to punish PIGGLY WIGGLY for their statements. For why, Mr. KINNEAR? Is it any of your business, or the business of the Seattle Retail Grocers’ Association? Why do you take up the ISSUE? Are you and your organization guilty of this thing PIGGLY WIGGLY tells about? If this combination and agreement has anything to do with you or your association—say so. We would like to know about it and so would the public. We understand there are hundreds of grocers in this city who do not belong to your organization. Are you defending them in this matter or are you defending yourself and organization? Now, Mr. Kinnear and the Seattle Retail Grocers’ Association—if you have started something you can not finish, now would be a good time to stop threatening PIGGLY WIGGLY. ‘There are many things about the grocery business of which the public knows nothing, but in which they would be very much interested. Do you want the skeletons of the grocery business dragged from thelr restful repose in dark closets? Our observation of public sentiment is that they want to buy milk and other foods at the lowest price consistent with good business, and that is what PIGGLY WIGGLY proposes to give. Regardless of who the grocer may be or how efficiently he may operate his business, PIGGLY WIGGLY system enables it to sell at lower prices. Therefore PIGGLY WIGGLY can sell fresh milk to you at ONE CENT less than any other grocer can, and make a fair profit. In order that PIGGLY WIGGLY customers shall not lose the ONE CENT per quart which they are entitled to, PIGGLY WIGGLY will credit them with ONE CENT per quart on every bottle of milk or cream which they purchase elsewhere, in connection with purchases made in PIGGLY WIGGLY stores.
