PAGE 8 AUTO RACE IN ~ CHICAGO PARK Grant Cars Race While Cop Watches, Judge Walks Police sanction for an automobile Face in a pubjic park is rather un- usual, When it was learned that racing had been carried on in Wade park, Cleveland, there was consider: able comment, favorable and other: wise. Four cars took part in this con- test, racing from 106th st. to Lake Brie, and what is still moro inter: esting, a mounted cop accompanied them. The winning car came in last and the car which plunged over the tape first was last! Two of the four carg stalled their motors and were taken out of the race. No drivers rode with their cars and the observers made the trip on foot! Steering was done from the ground. Yeah! It was a terrific race, lasting for two miles. The racing car# were all Grant ears, two entered by the factory and two by the Grant-Cleveland Co, The winning car made the two miles in 40 minutes and % seconds, a speed of about 1% miles per hour. The fest was made for the purpose of seeing how low the Grant would throttle down. Brakes and clutch “Were not touched during the con- test and the run was made in high gear.
