The United States Bureau of Census reports that there are still 14,000,000 homes in the Unit- ed States without electric lights, and that there are 150,000 pending applications by existing or new industrial concerns for electric power. ' Contrast this condition in general with the condition in this region, where electricity is the universal burden bearer, due to the large hydro- electric development which has already taken place here. THIS DEVELOPMENT IS DUE TO THE THRIFT AND PRUDENCE OF THOSE WHO | HAVE INVESTED IN THE SECURITIES OF | THE ELECTRICAL INDUSTRY. It matters not who offered the securities— whether private company or the public — the money came from those investors. The public should co-operate in protecting those investors. By so doing, future development will be made easier and more responsive to the industrial needs of these communities. The Puget Sound District is many strides ahead of other sections of the United States in its power resources, and those strides will count for much in the future race for industrial su- premacy. Our power resources are adequate ; our power is dependable. We can meet industrial require- ments.
