Franchisé Deception No. 1 Deception No. 4 Star Calls It a Steal Support the Mayor by Voting Against Proposition “‘A” When Mayor Hanson vetoed the vicious Na- tional District Telegraph Company (N. D. T.) franchise he was protecting Seattle from the grasp of a monopolistic foreign corporation. He realized the deceptions that the unscrupulous N. D. T. Company would thrust upon the people of Seattle, as shown in recent published statements. In their effort to grab this val- uable franchise in Seattle they endeavor to make you believe the following: DECEPTIONS: THAT IT WILL REDUCE FIRE INSURANCE RATES. This tries to make you think that the N. D. T. appliances will secure lower rates than the efficient Instantaneous Alarm Company service, which furnishes its patrons the largest re- duction allowed by the insurance companies for any such pro- tection. THAT IT WILL DIMINISH FIRE WASTE. The best engineers of national reputation have pronounced the protection furnished by the Instantaneous Alarm Com- pany equal to any in America. THAT IT WILL ADD TO THE REVENUES OF THE CITY. The N. D. T. people make the very liberal (?) offer to return to the city 2% of the moncy taken from the city. The voters of Seattle at one time overwhelmingly voted down the N. D. T. offer of 5% for such a franchise. THAT IT WILL TAKE FIRE PREVENTION SERV- ICE OUT OF MONOPOLISTIC HANDS. The N. D. T. Company has thenational reputation for adopt- ing more foul methods of maintaining monopoly than any other grasping corporation in America. This is the concern that now asks to take Seattle’s fire protection out of the hands of Seattle citizens, who for thirty years have been putting all the company’s earnings into additional protection for the ctiy. If Seattle ever takes over the fire.alarm system as a public utili- ty, why again tear up Seattle’s streets and create two systems to acquire? Seattle papers have been strongly on record against this franchise for years back (the franchise has been up four times in sixteen years). The Post-Intelligencer said, “On its demerits alone the proposal should be voted down.” The Star advised the voters, “The N. D. T. franchise is a steal. Kill it!” The Union Record has fought the N. D. T. and its parent cCom- pany, the Western Union, right down the line. Seattle is generally RIGHT and it will not go wrong this time. Vote Against Proposition “A”—and Kill the N. D. T. Franchise so it will stay dead! INSTANTANEOUS ALARM CO. 112 COLUMBIA STREET
