CLE SAM, in the guise of a war-worker, is knocking at your door this week. Seattle is called upon to house 10,000 more men who are on the firing line in the shipyards and industries vitally essential to the great vic- tory that is in sight. Every house in Seattle will be visited this week by representatives of the U. S. Homes Registration Service, working in connection with the County Council of Defense. If you have a room you can possibly rent, register it for immediate use. Don’t insist on keeping an empty “guest” room, on the possibility that you may need it some time, when Uncle Sam needs that room right now. You are doing a patriotic act, in this time of need, when you reduce your own living space, if necessary, and open your doors to the war-worker. But the war-worker may soon become a peace-worker, and then Uncle Sam will still need that room, for America’s big task will be to bring back two, three or more million sol- diers from the war fronts in American vessels. THE SEATTLE STAR—MONDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 1918. Now we are borrowing ships from our allies; with the end of the war they must have those ships back.‘ America demands her own ships for her own soldiers! Seattle is just beginning to build ships! Seattle will meet this emergency; her loyal, patriotic citizens meet every emergency! Liberty Loan, Red Cross, K. of C., Y. M. C. A., More Homes—she never falters, but makes good every time. Remember, the government has not taken over the task of building homes. The More Homes Bureau of the Chamber of Commerce and Com- mercial Club is carrying forward its splendid work of giving Seattle 5,000 more homes, but before they can be built in sufficient numbers, RIGHT NOW Uncle Sam must pro- vide living quarters for 10,000 workers. Seattle has been wanting a big, permanent payroll. Now’s the time to get it. You cannot turn Uncle Sam down when he knocks at the door! ‘United States Housing Corporation United States Housing Service. R. M. McCullough, King County Council of Defense (Gen- eral Manager).
