The question has been asked, “Which way is the best way to clean the teeth?” I recommend the method as outlined by Dr. W. C. Dalbey, and as a matter of fact I have employed this method for years, and be- lieve it to be a most effective way of guarding against tooth decay, mouth disease, etc. First of all, a tooth has five surfaces—the biting surface, the sur- face toward the cheek or lip, the side toward the tongue, and the sides toward each neighboring tooth—front and back, Each of these five sides has a perfect right to be cleaned, as each side is liable to decay if it is not. Buy a tooth brush with few bristles in it. Most brushes have twice too many bristles. Now clean out the cracks of the teeth by brushing briskly lengthwise. ‘Then by a rotating, sweeping motion, clean the sides of the teeth, both cheek sides and tongue sides. After this is done take silk floss (regular dental floss is best), and pass between all the teeth. Be careful not to press hard with the floss upon the gum be- tween the teeth; pass it in one direction. This will better carry out the food particles. Now thoroughly rinse the mouth, after which cleanse the tooth brush before putting it away. TARTAR MUST BE REMOVED MECHANICALLY While your tooth brush and dentrifice will remove food particles which cause tooth decay, another enemy of your teeth and gums—TAR- TAR and deposits from the blood—must be eliminated, for there is dan- ger in allowing tartar deposits on the teeth. Tartar is a lime deposit and is a foreign body—an irritant. Tartar never preserves the teeth. The deposit varies in color and is sometimes the cause of offensive breath. If allowed to remain around the neck of the teeth it causes the gums to become spongy, often causing them to bleed at the slightest touch. Tar- tar must be removed mechanically, by instrumentation, by a dentist. TEETH CLEANING—TARTAR REMOVING A SPECIALTY Every facility necessary to proper and thorough teeth cleaning, inclading the removing of tartar deposits, ix found in my office. A skilled Prophylactic nurse will painstakingly seale, clean and polish each tooth, removing by instrumentation the unsightly, insanitary tartar de- posits. This work will result in cleaner, whiter and better appearing teeth. Your teeth, gums and mouth will be in a more sanitary condition and les liable to be affected by Pyorrhes, and what is more, you may be saved many dollars in dental work which might have to be done later. The cost of teeth cleaning ts small, ranging from $1.50 up. However, it's the best investment you can make, simply because good sound teeth mean good health.
