career ' gf . | E VERY once in a while Mayor Gill slips back to the Gill of old, to the Gill of unbridled tongue, to the 4 Gill of abusive language and unfair action. Every once in a while Mayor Gill disappoints those who want to believe he has changed, as he said he did, when he “came back” a year ago to remove the stain that had been on his name. Every so often he reverts to the old type, to the Gill who had to be recalled for the good of Seattle. H vindictive, untruthful, unfair attack on Thomas H. Bolton is one of those instances. When Gill said Bolton is an I. W. W. and insinuated that he is an anarchist, at least the 15,000 men and women members of organized labor, at whose head Bolton stands, knew that the mayor of Sexttle was untruthful and unfair. When Gill said Bolton represented only a small minority faction of organized labor, at least these 15,000 knew that the mayor, plainly speaking, lied. It was such a ridiculous and absurd lie, too, be- cause Bolton has been elected for three successive years as president of the Central Labor council. Gill’s statement was untruthful on its face. Gill has a personal grudge against Bolton. That, however, does not excuse lies and fabrication. The mayor has no right to be unfair toward Bolton any more than any one has the right to be unfair toward any candidate. Bolton is a taxpayer who owns his own home, believes in honesty and clean government, is entitled to and will get the support of organized labor and thousands of others, AND MAYOR GILL KNOWS IT. When Gill said Bolton is an I. W. W. and intimated he was an anarchist, which he knew was un- truthful, the mayor insulted 15,000 men and women who labor. If Bolton is am anarchist and un- desirable citizen, THEN EVERY ONE WHO TOILS IS EQUALLY AN UNDESIRABLE. Gill is belittling himself and his office to stoop to petty, mean, cheap lies out of personal spite against Bolton, or any other man.
