The progressive state platform {s entirely adequate to serve this year as it did in 1912, for the progres- sive policies in the main failed of adoption in the last legislature, which was controlled by a standpat combination of republicans and democrats. If a convention is held, the 1912 platform will probably be reaffirmed in ite entirety. ee It was a different case with the republicans, They bad to have a convention, because they had to live down, if possible, the notorious Aberdeen platform of 1912 When the young republicans agi- |tated for the convention, they had |no idea, of course, that the state jconvention would again be in con- |trol of the old gang. | It's a different case with the democrats, too, because, being the [party in power, it must draft a ‘come back” to the critics of the administration. The progressives don't have to have a convention, but they simply can't resist the temptation to go on \“dress parade,” feeling that they have the opportunity to outclass the republicans all the length of the menu, from soup to nuts. The republicans were able to arouse only 600 voters in the whole of King county to participate in their caucuses.
