The courtesy of the P prety sate 1, amd ite eplendid plant makes The Seattle Star has been temporarily enlarged to twelve pages. This enlargement was rendered necssary by the fact that the presses of the Post-Intelligencer, which The Star is now using, will not take an eight-page paper, of the size of The Star. The P..I.'s machinery is of a dif- ferent build and its construction only permits.of the use of The Star's roll paper in the form of either six or twelve short and somewhat narrow pages. The six-page form will not do, except for the noon edition Owing to the car shortage and the difficulty experi- enced by all of the newspaper in securing roll paper, the Powt-Intelligencer cannot at this time supply The Star with paper of the proper size made specially for its machinery. The Star, however, happens to have on hand two car- loads of its own paper, adapted for its Potter perfecting presses. This paper was fortunately stored in a warehouse and escaped destruction in the fire Jast Saturday night. It has been found that this roll paper can be utilized on the P..1.’s presses, in the twelve-page form above men- tioned These twelve pages contain about the same quantity of space as The Star's large eight-pages, which sometimes were lengthened to 26 inches. The twelve-page form will be used as long as The Star is printed on the Post-Intelligencer's presses. After The Star gets into its new building, and using its own bat- tery of Potter presses, the eight-page form will be re- med this possible. ——_— 4 _ | ‘sunge ‘ « da gE.
