HAS[HAU MEN T0 HOLD AN IMPORTANT MEETING The magnates of the Pacific Coast. Baseball League will meet in this city to consider matters of vital import- ance concerning the season which-will lopen soon. An important detail will | be the election of a president to usc- ceed Eugene F. Bert, who resigned re- gy A Another important question will be as to the size of the league this season. There is a question as to whether Seattle will be represented or not. The former backers of the club withdrew, and it was turned over to Russ Hall at the meeting of the league in Los Angeles. Hall tried to finance it, but failed, and the franchise and the play- ers have reverted to the league. The latter has no ball park there at the present time, so the question is a com- plex one and will be hard to decide. Work is being pressed at the new park in this city at Fifteenth and Va- lencia #treets, and all the officfals claim that the grounds will be ready by the middle of next month, when the New York Giants are scheduled to play threo[ games here. STANFORD WILL TRY 70 HOLD COACH LANIGAN STANFORD UNIVERSITY, Feb. 26.— No action was taken on the resigna- tion of Coach James F. Lanagan at the meeting of the executive committee last night, although it was expected some conclusion might be reached. Lanagan was unable to be present and the matter has been allowed to go over temporarily without action. In the face of the coach’'s unqualified state- ment that he would not reconsider his resignation it is hard to understand by what means his services can be re- tained. ‘The suggestion of lntml!ng a coach- ing system such as has proved success- ful at Yale is finding favor on the pus.
