Bacey had been drinking heavily and was leaning against a post at the corner of Mont- gomery avenue and Kearny street when attacked by the trio. A bystander sum- moned Policeman Hurd, who arrived on the scene after the man's assail- ants had fled. Hurd sent the injured man to the Receiving Hospital, where he was treated for severe bruises and cuts on his head and face.
