Fireman Meets Death and Engineer Badly Injured. SPECT.L DlSi’ATCH TO THE CALL. RENO, June 16.—Fireman W. A. Brooks is.dead and Engineer E. T Elmore in the hospital at Wadsworth with a broken shoulder as a result of a rear-end collision this afternoon at Gilpin station. about twenty-five miles east of this city. The two trains were extra fruit trains loaded with oranges and fifteen cars of fruit are piled in a tangled mass of wreckage blocking the main line and both sidings, for a distance of several hundred yards. The body of Fireman Brooks, burn- ed and mangled beyond recognition, was taken from the firebox of his en- gine. The wreek was due to the failure of the flagman on the front_ train to properly protect the rear end of his train. Extra 1767 was taking water at Gilpin and Flagman Virgin neglected to put out a rear flag. Extra 3006 came | around a curve and crashed into the rear end of 1767 while going at the rate of twenty-five miles an hour. Engineer Elmore saved his life by Six cars of the Wadsworth local were derailed and one car com- pletely turned over by being struck by the wreckage of the freight cars.
