Mecan, at present of 25 Hanover street, and his son, Gerald, were occupants of one of the apart- ments in the ill-fated Kingsbury House at 172 Sixth street on the morning of the earthquake. In a letter to Coroner Walsh McCall gives details of the ter- rible experience of other guests in the house, and from his statement it is thought very few survived either the shock or the fire that followed. Yester- day the bodies of two more victims were recovered from the ruins. McCall says that all guests on the two lower floors must have been killed or burned to death. When he reached the street the third floor of the build- ing was almost on a level with the street, and the fire started within ten minutes after he escaped. MeCall gives names and data concerning a few per- sons who were fortunate enough to es- cape in the foilowing paragraphs: “I occupied apartment No. 235, third floor, in the XKingsbury, with my son, Gerald. We both escaped without in- jury, also others I know, as follows: Mr. and Mrs. P, H. McCullough, Mrs. Lizzie Woodward and daughter, June, were hurt. The enly thing that saved me and my son were two bathrooms alongside of each other, and these kept the wall from falling in on both of us.” Yesterday the body of Willlam Burnip. a locomotive engineer, was recovered from the ruins of the Kingsbury, and the body of an. unidentified man was found near by. Bodies were also found at Montgomery avenue and Francisco street, and at Washington and Battery streets. They were so badly burned that identification was impossible. APARTMENT SITE ON NOB HILL. E. If the representative can succeed in accomplishing this purpose, then, it is said, the Moorhead family will be reconciled to the young couple, and make the best of what they call a bad bargain. The Moorhead family gives no in- dication of relenting to young John Moorhead. His father positively de- clines to discuss the matter. SALVED FURNITURE CAUSES HITCH N PAYING INSURANCE Persons who saved furniture from their homes during the great fire last month and sold it in part or as a whole have raised an insurance question which may not bé answered in accordance with their wishes. Many such cases have become known to the underwriters. .n one fn- stance a large claimant for insurance on property lost in the fire acknowledged that he had sold $150 worth of furniture. ‘The agents of the company by which he had been insured at once informed him that his action had vitiated the contract contained in his policy of insurance. Ac- cording to his story, which he toid at the office of the Insurance Commissioner. he was refused a blank in which to make a stances at from the fire.
