HE entertalnment given by Tamal- I pais Camp of the Woodmen of the World and Golden Gate Circle of the Women of Woodcraft in Harmony Hall on Mission street June 18 was a very enjoyable affair, that being the verdict of those present, more than 300. There was an opening address by the Woodman orator, J. F. McElroy, fancy dance by Irene Kamena, exhibition dance by Hazel McKune and a farce in which Miss Agnes B. King, Mrs. Ferguson, Miss Tessie Cas- sennelli and Mrs. Kaufman took part. This was followed by the hit of the even- ing, an exhibition drill by the drill corps of Golden Gate Circle under the captaincy The members of this corps were attired in a uniform of white ghirt waist and black short skirt and each carried an ornamented short spear. The appearanee of the corps was neat and at- tractive and the various evolutions demonstrated that the members had close- ly followed the instructions at drill of the captain. The corps was warmly abp- plauded and was forced to return to give an encore. The drill was followed by dancing until midnight. The affalr wi under the direction of Neighbors F. J. Kelly, Owens, McKune, McAbbie, Mc- Donough and Wehrs. Under the direction of Consul Com- mander C. J. Last Monday night the camp Initlated a number of strangers into the mysteries ———— ' The average age of death has in- m 18 years in the sixteenth in the present The Maccabees. 3B Knights of the Maccabees I of this efty have recently dem- onstrated that they are frater- nal as well as beneficial. A sir knight named Adams, from one of the tents in Arizona, came to this city in the hope of improving his health, which had been on the decline, but instead he grew worse and found himself very sick, a siranger in a strange city. His condition was made known to the members and officers of Golden West Tent, when steps were taken to care for him. In a short time he died, but there was no one here to give bim burial, so Golden West Tent made ar- rangements to give the deceased sir knight a Christian interment, which was done last Sunday, the tent becoming re- sponsible for the expenses, Wwhich amounted to more than $100. The matter was also brought to the attention of San Francisco Tent, when that subordinate of- fered to pay one-half of the funeral ex- penses, and the offer was accepted. Pacific Tent at a recent meeting also did a graceful act for the widew of a man who had been an active member of the tent, but had allowed himseif to be- come suspended. One of her children died and she was so poor that she would have had to turn over the remains of the child to the City Undertaker for interment in the potter’s field, but the tent, whiie under no obligation to do so, purchased a plat in one of the cemeteriés and paid for a hearse and hack to convey the little body to_its final resting place. ‘The uniform rank of San Francisco Tent has arranged for a night and a day at the Chutes on July 20. The uniform division of that tent will be on the grounds in uniform and will give an exhibition drill. ——r .
