The Poultry market had an easier tone. The public demand was light, owing to the hot Weather, and retailers were backward buyers. Recelpts, however, were not very heavy and the market cleaned up fairly well. Old Roosters Wwere quoted lower, but prices of other deserip- tions were well maintained. Hare were offer- ing freely and had to be disposed of quickly, owing to the hot weather. Rabbits were un- changed. As previously mentioned, the creameries of the San Joaquin Valley will meet to-day at Fresno to devise some system of making rell- able and uniform market quotations. The Butter market showed no particular change yesterday. Receipts continued large, as Wil be seen, but the regular local demand, With some storing and some packing on out- side orders, kept prices about where they were, though the majority .of the trade reported a weak and dull market. There was no change in Cheese. Eggs are ruling rather weak than otherwise. Lower prices are quoted for store and medium ranch on account of the hot weather in the in- terior, and even fine large ranch are none too firm. Receipts are ample and all dealers have all they care to handle. Receipts were 102,200 Ibs butter, 1625 cases Eggs and 47,700 Ibs Cheese. Cotton- 25. The warm weather stimulated the demand for fruit and as yesterday wi shipping day for Puget Sound ports, trading generally was act- ive. The shipping demand ran chiefly on well packed Cherries in small boxes and Apricots in crates. The best grades of both found ready #ale at the top quotations. Black Cherries in large open boxes arrived freely from the Santa Cruz Mountalns and Napa, and prices were shaded, although the demand continued steady. The canners were in the market for emall whita and made liberal purchases at 3@3'c per Ib. Small Royal Anne went to the canners at the minimum rate, while fine large offerings found ready sale at better rates. Royal Apricots sold off well at $1@1 25 per box or crate, but Prin- gles, which were in excessive supply, dragged at easier prices. Green Apples met with slow sale. The top quotation was for some R boxes from the river. Currants were offering freciy and prices had a furter decline, the de- mand being limited. A few boxes of early Alexander Peaches, ry small and green, came in from Vacaville and sold for shipment north at $1 26 per box. Figs from Yuma, Arizona, were easier at §1 25@1 50 per box. Sales of green Cherry Plums were reported at 40@50c per drawer. The first Nutmeg Melons of the season appeared from Yuma, Arizona. One crate containing 20 small melons came in and sold for $8. Choice Strawberries In firme but poor and soft stock had to be soid at 'y prices. Receipts of Malindas from W sonville continued to arrive In poor condition, showing the effects of the warm ‘weather. Only the Brandywine variety of the large ber- ries brought over $4 per chest. Raspperrie Loganberries and Gooseberries were steady at about the same prices. * The Citrus market was steady. weather stimulated the demrand for Lemons Limes and prices of both were higher. Stacks of Lemons were light, fancy grades particalarly Fancy Oranges «-re also very scarce and would have brought higher than the quoted prices were there any available.
