Patrick Meehan, who was employed as & salesman by the Ploneer Belting Com- Pany, on Division street, near Eilghteenth, has been arrestea by Detectives O'Dea and Muleahey and Policeman George Graham and will be booked on charges of grand larceny. For the last four or five months belts have been stolen from the works, but no trace of the thief could be found: Finally D. J. Kelly, the proprietor of the works, notifled the police, and last Tuesday nigit he procured a mattress and decided to sleep on the premises in the hope that he might catch the thief. Wednesday afternoon the officers found Meehan in a junk dealer’s store trying to sel! & belt which he confessed he had stolen from the works. The only reason he gave was that he was “hard up” and needed the money. Kelly says that the total value of the belts stolen within the past four or five months will exceed %M.
