Ar- rangements were at once perfected to meet the train and endeavor to induce the new men to refuse to go to work. A committee of 25 union motormen and conduc- tors was named to perform this duty. . . When the committee arrived at the union depot they were informed that the train had been delayed, and that it would not reach this city until 7:30 o'clock this evening. The strikers fear that the company will ar- range to have the train stopped somewhere outside the city limits in order to take the men off before they can be seen by the strikers. To guard against this, messages will be sent along the line so that the progress of the train may be known. Men will be sent to various points down the line to board the train so that an opportunity may be had to talk with the men before they are taken in charge by the agents of the company. It is known that a recruiting station has been open- ed by the company in Portland, and it is expected that men will be imported from that city tonighht or tomor- row.
