Father Fleming Preaches Eloquent Memorial Sermon. In memory of the deceased members of the Young Men's Institute, Ignatian Council No. 35 held impressive memorial services yesterday morning in Sacred Heart Church, Fell and Fillmore streets. The church was crowded from the chan- cel rail to the outer door with members of the institute and friends and relatives of the deceased brethren of the order. The service is held annually on Wash- ington’s birthday in accordance with the custom which was established fifteen years ago. Rev. Philip Byrne, chaplain of Ignatian Council, was the celebrant of | the requiem mass. ' He was assisted by Rev. Father William J. Fleming, who ! acted as deacon, and by Father Come-| ford. Music which was especially appro- propriate for the solemnity of the occa-| sion was provided by the choir, which| | consisted of a double quartet, and which was led by Thomas Nowlan. Father Fleming preached an eloquent ! sermon. He took for his text verse 2, Psaim 47— My soul thirsteth for God, for | the living God: when shall I come and ap- | pear before the living God?"
