INDEPENDENT FORESTERS. High Chief Ranger O. 8. Cooper of the Independent Order of Foresters, accom- panied by Supreme Deputy Btewart and several members of the order from this city, pald a visit to Brentwood last week, and there met with the officers and mem- bers of the court. There was the Instal- lation of the new officers, the conferring of the degree on several candidates and the conferring, after the regular meeting, of the Orlental degree on nineteen candi- dates. Then followed a banquet, and it was long after midnight before the last toast was responded to. The several courts of this city, with one exception, are working for the large class fritiation, which is to be held about the 13th of March. Arrangements are being completed for mass meeting of the order to be held in the Assembly Hall of the Alcazar bulld- ing on the night of the 12th inst. NATIONAL UNION. The officers of Yosemite Council of the National Unlon were installed on the last Friday In January by Deputy J. N. Bunt- ing. After the ceremony thers were a number of interesting addresses, and the hospitality of the council was put in evi- dence. This council has of late been working hard to increase Its membership, and has done something along that line. California Council at its last meeting, on the 4th inst., was engaged in the ini- tiation of a number of strangers who were admitted Into the order in the full ritualistic form.
