New Process Will Make It Possible "to Work Low * Grade Ore. Special Dispatch to The Call. REDDING, Jan. 8.—Shasta County is to havé a large cyanide plant for the treat- ment of gold-bearing ores. The plant is to be installed by the Crown Deep Min- ing Company on”its group of claims four ores from the company’s own mine it will Le open for custom work. The plant will have a capacity of 200 tons per day. It is estimated that the average monthly payroll of the company, taking in all de- | partments, will Qe $12,000. ‘W. P. Miller & Son of San Francisco are interested in the company. Miller has been at the mine during the past few days looking over the ground preparatory to beginning operations as early as possi- ! ble In the spring. The development of this mine and the erection of the cyanide plant will be of incalculable value to Shasta County and especially to Redding. It wiil mean the raptd developmeft of the west- ern Shasta mineral fields and is really the beginning of an-era of progress and im- provement in that section of the county west of the Southern Pacific track. The cyanide process is a cheaper and simpler method of working the low grade ores process and with a custom plant at a cen- tral point the ores in many & small mine ! that cannot now be touched can be work- ! ed with profit. REDDING, Jan. 8.—Ed Kennedy, a pop- ular young mountain climber of Lyons- | ville, Tehama County, had a hairbreadth escape from a terrible death Monday. He and was starting down, when his foot slipped and he fell. Kennedy rolled down the mountain for a distance of forty feet, when he succeeded in grabbing a small bush. This stopped his descent and saved his life. bush he would have been dashed to death on thé rocks 500 feet below. He was con- siderably bruised and was scarcely able to get to Lyonsville. The butte from the chaparral bush down is a sheer precipice of fully 500 feet. PORT TOWNSEND, Wash.,, Jan. 8.— The wreck of the bark of Prince Arthur, which went ashore January 2, neiles south of Cape Flattery, has broken two and is nearly high and dry at low water on the beach near Ozette. Six bodies had been found on the beach when the last report was received. The two survivors, out of a crew of twenty, are badly injured.
