Laying Out a Line for the Santa Fe. -Special ‘Dispatch te The Call SAN: JOSE, Dec. 31.—The mystery sur- rourding the workings of the engineers at Coyote station, ten miles south of here, is no nesrer a solution than it was some months ago. It now appears that the survevors and engineers may have a double purpose in view. E. G. Wheeler, who is at tlie head of the { water syndicate, has realized all his hopes. An immense supply of water has been antained aggCovote and the belief derlies the section about Coyote has been confirmed. F. E. Miller, an engineer en- gaged with the surveying perty, is an old Spring Valley Company emplo; and the belief is gaining ground that the San Francisco company is the real promoter of the entérprise. Or aga{n it may be that the Bay Citles Company is but a spub-company-of the Spring Valley. While ditches are being dug snd preparations <‘nmrio for faying a pipe line there seems | to be no definite destination in view. * Grade stakes have been set and surveys run frem ‘Coyote to Gilroy ‘on the south and beyorid. On the north the same work has been carried on right up to the { gouthern city limits of San Jose. These lines closely follow the Coyote Creek. A rumor has it that the surveying parties arc laying out a line of railway, probably for the Santa Fy A-couple of vears ago George T. Dun- lap of Gilroy bought a tract of land run- ning ‘almost ali the distance from Gilroy to San Jose dlong the bank of the Coy- ote Creek. This was always believed to e’ for thé use of ‘the water company, but rithor, which is ever rhangeable, now has it that the purchz may have been made [for a right of way. A pecullar feature of the Coyote developments is that some of the men were revently paid with San- ta i'e time checks. ‘onc_has_been found ‘who is able to the work of the engineers. One shing is certain and that is that there is | to be some big investments and a boom Im the southern end of -the. Banta Clara .(oumy during the..summer .
