THE SAN FRANCISCO CALL., THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 1902. . BARK KAUILANI SAILS INTO PORT WITH HER DEAD CAPTAIN APTAIN T. H. GRIFFITHS, commodore commander. in the service of Willlams, Dimond & Co., is dead. Full of years and still in active service, he passed away on November 1, 400 miles off Cape Blanco on board the bark Kauilani. The Kauileni, which left Seattle two weeks ago for Honolulu, in command of Captain Griffiths, put in here yesterday to land for burial the body of the late skipper. He died quite suddenly and from eauses unknown. He had been suffering from stomach trouble and it is thought that this contributed to his taking off. He was 7) years of age, a native of Wales and leaves a wife and daughter. Captain Griffiths was one of the best known of the old-time masters sailing out | of this port. He came here in the early 50's and has kept to the end many of the | friendships formed during his first years | | on this coast. He commanded the bark Albert for many years and had the S. G. Wilder for a time before assuming com- | | mand of the Kaullani.. He was highly thought of by his employers, who, in spite of his age, trusted implicitly in his busi- | ness ability and skill as a navigator and { who now feel that through his death they ve lost a faithful and valuable servant. Captain Griffiths was a Knight Templar and belonged to Golden Gate Command- | ery, which will- most likely take:charge | of his funeral. 10 ADVERTISEMENTS. &% o Specials <House Furnishings Steel Frying Pans—Good heavy stock: No. 6, regular .price 40c, our price No. 7, regular price 45c, our price - No. 8, regular price s0c. our price .. - Heavy Nickel Trays—Round, regular price 3sc, our price. Pedersen, Ladysmith; R R R CHILDREN ARE ACCUSED OF MURDERING FATHER Three Youngsters in Jail for an Al- leged Crime of Extraordinary Nature. A COLUMBUS, Nebr., Nov. 5.—Three chil- dren, the oldest of whom is 14 years, are under arrest near Humphreys for killing their father, Gerlrard Borghers, a farmer, and burning his body. . Borchers was killed, according to a statement alleged to have been made to the Sheriff by Herman, his l4-year-old son, who used a shotgun which he had purchased for the purpose. Then, with the help of two brothers, August, aged 10, and John, aged 8 years, Herman dragged the body to a straw stack and set fire to it. Herman, who is said to have fired the gun that killed his father, implicates the younger brothers equally with himself, while they put the blame on hfm. The only motive for the crime given is that the father, who was a widower, had not treated them kindly. Neighbors say they knew of no mistreatment on the part of the father.
