Great difficulty is experienced in clearing the head @nd ‘throat. No wonder catarrh causes headache, impairs the taste, smell and hearing, pol- lutes the breath, dergnges the stomach and affects' the appetite. To cure catarrh, treatment must be con- stitutional—alterative and tonic. “I was .mmid with, catarrh. Of the county ticket the Républicans have probably elected W. Scott, County Clerk; George W. Jones, trict Attorney; S. W. Marshall, Treas- urer, and Scott McKay, Surveyor. The | Democrats have Hancock as Tax Col- lector, Lane as School Superintendent, and Cowan as Coroner. The rest of the offices are in doubt, the fights being very close, | HUMBOLDT. | — Four years ago Humboldt County gave Gage | a plurality of 964. i [P EUREKA, Nov. 4—Partial reports from erent precincts in Humboldt County carry it by bout 1600 majority. The returns are coming in slowly. It prebably will be 4 o'clock before the entire vote in Eureka is counted and several days before the remote precincts report. Enough is| known, however, to make certain the election of the entire Republican county ticket, with the possible exception that T. M. Brown, Democratic nominee for | Sheriff, the incumbent, and Superior Judge E. W. Wilson may win. Both As- sembly distriets are saved to the Re- publicans. Rolley and McNeil will poll their party vote, which will give them | a handsome majority. J. N. Gillette, Republican nominee for showing. | His majority doubtless will be much in excess of his party vote and many of the strongest Democratic precincts will give | him a lead. The voting in Eureka was large. Par- dee will probably carry this city by 230 votes and Gillette’s majority will exceed 400. His majority in the county will reach 1800. The Democratic leaders feel greatly dis- appointed in the returns that have come in. They did not look for a strong Pardee vote and thought that the Gillette-Selvage fight would defeat Gillette. They did not count on the numbers of Demotratic votes that went for the home Congress- man. -_— KINGS. 1 —_— Four years ago Kings County gave Gage a plurality of 20, HANFORD, Nov. 4.—Partial returns from Kings County indicate that Lane will carry the county by seventy-five ma- jority. Lee, chairman of the | Republican Central Committee, when he predicted that Los Angeles County would give Pardee between 3500 and 5000 plurality. | The interest in the election was fully as great as if there had been a President to be chosen, and throughout the city the vote was very large. This in itself is taken as a sign favorable to the Republi- can._ticket, for what the party leaders most fearsd was that the apathy which marked the campalgn would continue un- til election ‘day afidf ‘that "many “Republi- cans would not vote. This fear has been dissipated, however, by the casting of practically the full Republican vote. Ow- ing to local differences the- large majority of the tickets were scratched; in fact, it was almost impossible to find a man who had voted his ticket straight. The scratching did not apply so much to the head of the ticket as to the candi- dates for the Supreme bench and the as- pirants to county offices. Trask for Su- preme Justice probgbly will go out of Los | Angeles County with a plurality over Angellotti. The Democrats made a spe- cial effort to give Trask a good vote, and for that purpose hundreds of voters “single-shotted” him, while many others, through local pride, voted for Trask and Shaw as against the northern candidates for the Supreme bench. The other can- | didates on the State ticket were voted straight and will go the same way as the head of the ticket. On the county ticket the Democrats made a hard fight to defeat White, the Republigan nominee for Sheriff, and to elect Wilson, the Democratic candidate. In this they may have been successful, for partial returns from almost every pre- cinct show that White is running be- hind the rest of tke county ticket. ' The country prceincts, however, may more than overcome his loss in the ecity. With the possible exception of Township Justice in Los Angeles City the balance of the Republican county ticket is un- | doubtedly elected. J | Owing to the numerous dcratched tickets the count is very slow, and when it is considered that the vote is one of the largest ever cast here in an ‘“‘off vear’’ election it probably will be noon to- morrow before a large number of pre- cincts complete their count. THE REST OF HS TIGKET Other Democratic Nominees Are Beaten Off. Some Surprises for Managers of Both Parties. @ froieimeeefenfontord ol -H'k the count stood: Pardee 4407, Lane 3419. & For Congressman, McLachlan 495, Johr son 2391. The entire Republican count ticket is elected and the entire Republican ticket for Senate and Assembly. LOS ANGELES, Nov. 5.—At 2 o'clock this morning Chairman Lee of ihe County Central Committee claimed the county for Pardee by 5000 plurality, the election of McLachlan by between 6000 and 7000, the election of every Republican candidate for Senate and Assembly and the election of every candidate on the county ticket. The figures at this hour seem to substantiate this claim. Chairman Gaffey of the Democratic county committe claims that Los Angeles will give Lane 300, but does not tell upon what he bases his figures. Asked for par- ticulars, hé will not particularize. The Republican managers assert that his claim is foelish. From present in- dications Pardee’s majority will be excep- tionally large. A Repudlican Congress- man, Assemblyman and the entire county ticket, with two exceptions, will be elect- ed. Up to midnight eleven precincts out- side of San Rafael and Sausalito have sent in complete returns. The precincts thus far heard from are Olema, Black, Nicasio, Marshall, Saa Antonio, Belve- dere, Point Reyes, Bolinas, Richardson, Tiburon and San Quentin. The total gives Pardee 480, Lane 210, Coombs 485, Bell 201, Angellotti 565, Shaw 333, Trask 98, Farns- worth 93; Olmsted, Assemblyman (R.), 452; Hayden (D.), 240. In San Rafael in three precincts and in Sausalito in two precincts the returns are very incomplete but cannot change the majorities much. In the contest for Su- perior Judge Lennon thus far has 125 ma- Jority over Mclsaac, ana Boyd, for Dis- trict Attorney, 325 majority over Dunand.
