Order for Arrest of Lower California Exccutive Is Canceled SR Bl Special Dispatch to The Call. SAN DIEGO, July 5.—A special edition of El Eco de la krontéra, pub.shed in | Bnsenada, gives a somewhat different | account of tne killing of Prisener Lucanio Cabrera in the quartel tiiere than that which was telegraphed on Wednesday, and rather conurauicts the story that Governor Sanguines did the shooting. Some rumor of this phase of the affar reached here to-day through other sources and G. Terrazas, the acting Lieu- tenant Governor of the province, whose home is at Tia Juana, reports .that the Governor went to the prisun and ordered the obstreperous prisoner to surrender. Instead of doing so, Cabrera raised his weapon, which was a club about three and a half teet long and four inches in diameter, and brougnt it down upon the | head of the Governor. At that moment the guards who had accompanied the Governor raised their rifles and fired, kill- inz Cabrera. it seems from other reports that have been brought up from the lower country that Sanguines, immediately after the af- fray, went to his home and shut himself up. He did not appear on the street and none of the people had any idea that he was in town. 'fhe rumor was started that he had left and this report was sent to the City of Mexico, whence came an order almost immediately from President Diaz to the Mexican Consul here to have Sanguines arrested if he came north of | the boundary. The necessary papers were prepared and the Governor would have been taken into custody if he had arrived here yesterday. To-day orders came from the City of Mexico, directing the Consul to stay pro- ceedings. These orders are Sugposed to have resulted from finding that Sanguines was still in Ensenada, or from the news- paper account of the prison tragedy hav- ing reached the City of Mexico. A | There are two factions in the political | life of Ensenada, one of which would do all it could to have Sanguines removed. Mexicans in this city declare the news- paper account of the prisoner affair, as given in a journal controlled by San- guines, was made to fit his side of the case, while friends of the administration assert that the first report was sent out fo- the purpose of injuring the Governor. MINER MAY HAVE BEEN VICTIM OF A POISONER | Prospector and His Dog Found Dead | in a Trinity County Cabin. REDDING, July 5.—Meager details of what promises to be a sensational poison- ing case have been received from Trinity County. A miner and prospector named Bowery was found dead on Thursday in his cabin on the headwaters of Coffee Creek. His dog was dead beside him. An inquest was held by the deputy coroner of Trinity County, but the verdict reached by the jury has not yet been re- | celved. It is said, however, that grave suspicion of poisoning has been aroused, and a former resident of Shasta County is suspected. Trouble over mining claims ! is said to form the basis for the suspicions of foul play. Bowery was a painter by trade. who made his winter home in the Buckeye district of Shasta County. It is sald that for twenty years he has been accustomed to mine and prospect. in Trinity County, returning in the autumn to his haunts in Shasta County. LOS ANGELES BUSINESS MEN VISIT THE CARNIVAL tivities at the Ventura Street Fair. VENTURA, July was thing dolng” every minute during closing day of the street fair. A special excursion train from Los Angeles brought the Chamber of Commerce, which ar- rived at noon, afier having spent an hour visiting the sugar factory at Oxnard. The Los Angelenos immediately repaired to the barbecue and bean bake at the plaza. This afternoon there was a circus pa- rade, led by a corps of bogus policemen. Afterward there was a vaudeville show before Queen Maude. Her Majesty made her last appearance on the throne’ this evening and the carnival closed with a mardi-gras ball. - Good Suitsfor*9 : and we take the risk When you buy a suit from us the clothes go on your shoulders, but the risk remains on ours.
