Blacksmith Attempts Peace- Making and May Lose | His Life. Special Dispatch to The, Call. | OROVILLE, June 1.—R. A. Moore, one cf the oldest and best-known ranchers in ihis section, while under the influence of liquor last evening at a saloon in Biggs, | stabbed and probably fatally wounded Isaac Ball, a blacksmith, who is employ- ed on the ranch of ex-Senator Shippee, near Nelson. Moore and his victim had been drinking had been engaged in a card game. A man solicited the latter for the payment of wages alleged to be due. A dispute Te- sulted and Moore struck the man with his\fist. Ball interfered and received the wound which may end his life. The weap- on which was used was an ordinary pocket knife. The end of the blade was broken, but the edge was exceedingly sharp. A wound of about five inches in length was made in the abdomen. ° Moore was arrested in Biggs upon a warrant sworn to by one of tne witnesses to the assault, charging him with assault with intent to commit murder. The pris- oner was brought to Oroville this morn- ing and liberated upon a bail bond of $1000. Sheriff Wilson, however, is in close communication with the attendants of | the wounded man and ready to rearrest Moore should a fatal turn take place. Dis- trict Attorney Sproul is in Biggs prepared to take a dying statement. i Moore resides at Hamilton Ferry, situ- on Feather River.
