Bassett Acquitted. REDDING, Jan. 20.—A. L. Bassett was acquitted of the charge of assault with intent to commit murder by a jury in the Superior Court to-day. On November 17 last Bassett became engaged in a fight with Tim Shea and cut his opponent quite badly about the head with a pocketknife. Immediately after the trouble Shea said Bassett had made an unprovoked assault upon him. At the trial Shea reversed his story completely, testifylng to havin been the assailant and that Bassett ha acted In self-defense.
