Presi- dent James' H. Kennedy of the Excelsior Club secured a boxing permit from the Supervisors yesterday, while the San Francisco Athletic Club wliil hold its cus- tomary exhibition late in August. The Nelll-McConnell bout is expected to attract a good attendance, as the prin- cipals have a large following of friends. Two promising preliminaries have been arranged, each of ten rounds, with the privilege of additional ones, if necessary, to determine a winner. The first will be between “Jack’ Kane and “Doc” Flynn, and the second between ‘Jack” Ennis and “Jack” McMahon. These men have been showing excellent work before the ama- teur clubs. As they are all boxing for reputations, they should supply excellent sport. The bouts at the Olympie Club are all attractive ones, as the best avallable men in the semi-professional class have been brought together. F. Ast, who won in the recent tournament after a whirlwind bat- tle, has been matched against R. Waods, the last pupil turned out by Wal- ter Watson before his departure for the East. Both men are clever boxers and exceptionally hard hitters; hence their bout will hardly last the prescribed ten rounds. Charles Vickers, who is a veritable fighting machine, will meet George Baker while George Simpson. Thurston Club, have for an_opponent Charles of the San Francisco Athletic kindergarten of fighters. Olympic Club will be admitted charge to the bouts, outsiders charged a reasonable admission fee. George Dawson, one of the cleverest boxers which Australia has sent to this the free of country, arrived here on Monday. In the palmy days of the Callfornia Athletic Club Dawson was one of the favorite boxers with the members. Possibly his most memorable battle here was with Danny Needham, on July 26, 1800, for a $2000 purse. Dawson knocked Needham out in the twenty-ninth round. Both men are in this city and show littie effects of their experience in the ring. Dawson has been in the East some years, coming here from Chicago. PARDON MAY BE DEATH.
