THE OAKLANDS EASILY DEFEAT THE FLORISTS Good Game Witnessed by Hundreds. O'NEIL AND RUSSELL SHINE THEY BOTH DO MOST BRILLIANT WORK. How the Great National Game Xared at the Hands of the Playesr in at the Hends of the Players in Cities. By doe Corbett. An immense crowd, almost the equal of that which turned out to see the Gilt Edges play on Sunday last, assembled at Recreation Park yesterday afternoon, and saw the Oaklands defeat the “Florists” of San Jose by the score of 5 to 1. They also, necessarily, saw one of the best games the Oaklands ever played, and this, by the way, is a something not seen every day. The fans were, therefore, glven an unusual treat, and outside of this, Tip O'Neil, that erstwhile and reli- able, gave them an illustration of how he can play the national game when things come his way and the fates are generous. It was a great day for the Oaklands and ness the league ‘game of baseball be- tween Santa Cruz and Watsonville Fully 3000 people were in attendance. Santa Cruz came over on a special train and confident of victory, which _they easlly won, the score standing 4 to 1. PACIFIC BEATS PLACER. Local Team De?&té?lg Citrus Colony Cricketers by a Good Margin. The Placer County Citrus Colony crick- eters played the fifth match of thelr tour, and their second match against a San Francisco team, yesterday on the Golden Gate grounds. On Saturday they played at Alameda against the Alameda eleven, and yesterday they trled conclusions with the Pacific team. The Pacifics went to the bat first, and thanks largely to the excellent batting of J. Meyers, who scored 6 funs, complled a total of 164. To this total J. McLean contributed 18; J. J. Theobald, 17; T. W. G. Wallace, 14; G. T. Coles, 11 not out, and C. P. Coles, 10. C. K. Turner and W. B. Paul bowled most successfully for the visitors. The Placer County batsmen did not make much of a stand against the Pacific bowlers, Sewell's underhand balls proving particularly fatal to them. C. K. Turner, 7, and W. B, Paul, 10, were the only bats- men who obtained double figures. The innings closed for 53, Sewell having taken 8 wickets in 8 balls for 44 runs. C. P.
