Thweat on Decatur -trcet for being drunk and for disorderly conduct, and when he caught hold of "the negro he threw his right hand behind him and attempted to draw a pistol. As quick as lightning the officer reached for his own pistol, and when tne negro saw that the oificer meant business be threw his weapon to the ground. Thweat was piac under arrest and his pistol picked up from where it had been thrown. At the police barracks Thweat talked about getiing away, and it took some trouble to keep him quiet. He con- tended that he did not mean to shoot the officer. bu only meant to hide the pistol in his trousers leg. When the negro's pistol, which was a heavy bulidog, was examined it was found to be loaded with six cartridges, but instead of lead they contained wooden bul'ets.—Atlanta Con- stitution. e A Wedding in a Lion’s Den. At Boston the Rev. George Rader, as- sisted by a boy choir, publiciv married Charlotte Wiberg and Arthur Standrassy in & den of lions at the Zooiogica: Gardens in that city. Tne clergyman seems to bave been -omewhat furiively watchtul of the movements of the ns, but the bride and bridegroom appeared to be rather less frightened than the lions, we-arand Cleopaira. These required the use of the trainer’s whip to arouss their ferocity to gratify the exreciations of the company who had assembled to witness this remarkable wedding. ————— THE CALL CALE December 1. 1897.
