At last the San Francisco public are going to witness a ball game betwesn live players on a live ground and with a live ball. This game will not only be played under these conditions, but it will be alive to the interest of the poor and the un- fortunate. To-morrow at Recreation Park those great aggregations of ball-tossers—All- Americas and Baltimores—meet. The players, the attaches, even to the impor- -tant spieler, Abe Marks, have volunteered theirservices. Theyexact not one cent for tribute. The entire proceeds of the game will be turned over to the Associated Charities, they to make such dispositicn of the funds as, in their judgment, they +hink proper. The lessees of the grounds have given them free for this worthy and benefi- cent cause. A band-of thirty pieces will discourse popular music, and when Lange, the great center-fielder for All-Americas, steps to the plate, batin band, to swat the ball it will dissourse that popular melody with variations, “‘Lange,” and not **Casey,” at the bat. melodious accompaniment. To the resonant sound of base hits the band will play a On this occasion Patsy Donovan, Captain of Pittsburg and the great right fielder of Baltimore, will do his livel best to bunt the ball and beat it 1o first. The handsome and accomplished Huey Jennings will gallop over the diamond like a gazelle pursued by the huntsmen. Mike Griftin will display bis walk, which is a cross between a slot machine and a typewriter, with all its varigatea accommpaniments. Clarke’s voice will be tuned to a high pitci and the echoes of it will mingle with the harsh ana discordant tones of the ferry-boats on the bay. Patsy Tebean will hold down first base for All-Americas in his own imitable style, picking up everything that comes into his territory and hurling it into the box-office receipts. i There will be a series of baseball athletics that will astound the cranks. Base running, long and accurate thiowing, hard and smashing drives regardless of the price of Nationai League balls will add additional sntertainment to the occasion. J. Frank Eline, manager of the teams, offers §25 to any local player who can out-throw any member of the Eastern aggregations. A number of the star play- ers of California will probably be on the field to- participate in this exhibition. Among them Zan of the Olympics, 8 young man who has a wing and who can hurl the ball athwart the cerulean dome in as graceful curves and rapid flight asa homing pigeon seeking his loft. A BI6 WHALE SHOW. Many Monsters Swim and Blow Very Near the Cliff House, Superintendent McLaren Happy Over a Prospective Park Bridge. There was a large crewd at the parkand Cliff House yesterday afternoon, and the day was free from accidents. At the Cliff there was much curiosity over the unpre- cedented number of large whales that made their appearance close to the beach. They swam and blew for hours within a few hundred yards of the seal rocks. “I counted six monsters of the deep plowing their way through the waves,’” said Manager McQuade of the Sutro Vaudeville. *“Ipeversaw a bigger whale than one of those which came closestto the shore, though I have been in many seas, from the shores of old Ireland to the port of Apia.” Traveling with the whales that paid a visit to the waters so near the Cliff Heuse were many schools of strange fish, many of them very large The presence of su many fish of all sizes caused the seals to feed among them, the sea! rocks standing dresolate and uninbabited nearly all arter- noon. Superintendent McLaren was feeling very happy over the tact that the railroad company has just donated $4000 for a new arch bridge in the western part of the park, near the bicycle grounds. The de- sign is quite beaut'ful, beinz two arches in rust'c style so as to allow ample trans- portation for man and beast. SAN FRANCISCO **CALL.
