Although the middle of August is already here country delights in the shape of boating parties, picnics and moonlight dances on the iawn manage to claim the undivided atten- tion of San Francisco’s 400. The reopening of the schools naturally has orought many wanderers back to town, but nough still ‘linger amid pastures grecn to ke their loss easily felt in the City’s social circles, B..uw will be found our usual interesting reports for the many fashionable interior resorts. Some of the other notable piayers hero are: Dr.and Mis. Segar, Frank Terrell, Prince, Edward Berwick, Niss Em. ery, Miss Hollenibeck ind Miss Martin, The game of cioquet as played ai this place assumes rather the character and science of chess, for mostof the players are men who bend every energy to the game, caiculating each move or stroke with the foresighted care-. fulness of a chess expert. Mrs. Williamson is the only lady who can keep pace with these formidable antagonists. Asa matter of course swimming, boating and other water sporis coutinue to be the favorite diversions, since many of the visitors come from the interior of the State and find their chief pleasure in be- ing about the water.
