At these sessions dealers who are members may present and display samples of any class of fruit or produce they may have for sale. Memoranda of green fruit or produce con- signments to arrive may also be given to the secretary and will be posted on the bulletin for the information of buyers. The trade generally, not members of the exchange, are invited to attend, “and it Is hoped by this means to eatablish a reli- abie market and save much time by concentrating busiuess, thus obvialing the necessity of trading from store to store as at present, It is not intended that this business shall be confined Lo carload lots, but shat samples of g0oas may be presented from which sales may be made in any quantity to suit the parchaser. It is believed that by this system more business can be transacted within an hour thah in a whole day under the present mode and will relieve the seller to a great extent of the con- stant and all-day stream Of dealers to store and office, many of whom call at Inopportune times, merely 10 obtaln quotations on which L0 base pur- chases or sales, which would eventually be done sway with and result in an economy of ‘t:me to both buyer and seller. NEW YORK, N, Stock Exchange was depressed by weakness. Tondon was a heavy seller, throwing overboard something like 15,000 shares of various stocks, and this, with the sales for local professional ac- count, kept. the market weak throughout. The political outlook was not considered favorable so far as the hard-money men are concerned, and the failure o place the New York and Brooklyn City gold bonds also had some influence with timid hoiders of stocks. While there was some disposi- tion in cer.ain quarters to credit the smal: bldding for bonds to currency sgitation leading bond- dealers were inclined to believe that the time se- lected 1o sell the bonds was most inopportane, In-ihe firs: pluce, a £ood many Investors who usually buy this kind of security are ont of town, Again, the banks hiave no special_use for a short- time bond and they can do vecter by piacing their funds {n new Government fours which run until 1925 and can serve as a basis for circalation. Some dealers were of the opinion that the matter had been woetully mismanaged, and esserted that when the bonds are offered in the fall there will be no guestion about the success of the issue The cutting of corn rates by the Western roads hurt the grangers and the selling was more confident than of late.
