Isobars, or solld lines, connect poin s of equal air pressure; iso- therms. or dotted lines, equal tempersture. The word “‘high” means high barometric pressure and 18 ususliy sccompanied by fair weatper: ‘low” refers to low pressure. and is usually preceded ahd accompanied by cloudy weatherand rains. “Lows” usially first appesr on the Washington comst. When the pressure is high in_the interior and low along the coast, and the isobars extend north and south along the comst, rain is probable; but when the “low” 1s inclosed with isobars of marked curvature, rain south of Oregon is {mprob- able.
