Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Van Schelluyne Gibbs | celebrated their golden wedding last Weanes- | day evening at their residence, Post street, where they hospitably entertaineda | large number of their iriends, and received not oniy their congratulations but many golden tokens of their esteem. Although they | have both passed the period of three-score and | ten they are in the full possession of health | and are as active as many of their juniors. Mr. and Mrs. Gibbs were married in Brooklyn, . Y., just fiity years ago last Wednesday and arrived in this City in April, 1849, Mr. Gibbs has been prominently identified in the worid of commerce here since then. He was one of { the founders of Trinity Church, one of the principal promoters of the Young Women’s Christian Association, was twice elected presi- dent of the Society of California Pioneers, and | for the past two years has been president of St. | Luke’s Hospital. Mrs. Gibbs has been espe. cialiy notable in her charity work and asan hospitable entertainer. 5 The host and hostess were assisted in receiv- ing by their two daughters, Mrs. John Staf- ford, wife of Lieutenant Siafford, U. 8. A string orchestra played during the re- | ception and refreshments were served. The | pleasant affair came to an end at midnight. Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Kronberg celebrated the twenty-fifth anniversary of their wedding on Sunday, June 14, at their residence, 161 Turk street. The couple held a reception dur- ing the afternoon hours, and received many valuable and handsoms presents. . For the pas: seventeen years Mr. Kronberg has been the secretary of the local lodge, “‘Doric,” of the F. and A. M., and his brother Masons remem- | bered him hendsomely on the occasion of his | silver wedding. | The thirty-first anniversary of the wedding | of Mr. and Mr=. James H. Riley was celebrated in an appropriate manner on Saturday even- ing, June 13, at the Riley residence, 449 | Natoma street. Early in the evemng the worthy couple were induced to visit a neighbor's, and during their absence their | many friends took possession of the residence, | and with the aid of fiowers and evergreens and flags, completed a beautiful transformation. Music was furnished by the Acme Club, and at | 10 o’clock the Veteran Fireman's band ap- peared on the scene, led by J. F. Fernandez | and managed by C. W. Dunn, and ‘serenaded | the assembled party. Mr. Riley is an ola | Veteran, not only of the old Voliunteer Fire Department, but of the National Guard and of | the late war. Quite the feature cf the evening, however, was a fapcy dance in costume by Miss Fanny Raye. The young folks amused themselves | with games, musc, singing, dancing and reci- | tations until 11 o’clock, when the guests were | invited into the dining-room, where e sump- tnous supper_awaited them under the direc- tion of Mrs. Charles H. Krucke, ably assisted by Miss May White, Sadie Riley and Miss Trix Davis, At the conclusion of the repast Mr. and Mrs. Riley were called into the parlor, where they were presented with saveral ele: gant and very appropriate presents.
