CHICAGO, ILL, Oct. 5—~The same crowd of local bulls that has been playing so unsuccesstully for an advance in wheat during the past week made another sttempt to boom the market this morning, but met with little encouragement. A few fractions’ rise took place, but faled to hold, and early buyers became sellers later. The move ment in Minneapolis and Duluth and the bellef thut Chicago might expect heavy consignments from that direction in the near future presented an srgument ageinst prices that it was dificult to controvert. The close of the week found the Comstock con- siderably lower than at the opening, as will be seen by the table of comparaiive prices below, the average decline in the leading stocks ranging from 10c to 20 Yesterday’s market was rather firmer and prices were higher all around until the close, when they shaded off again.’ On the Stock and Bond exchange the sugar stocks continued firm, 183 being bid for Hutchin- son. San Francisco Gas- was flrmer at 7034 bid and Edison weaker at 95% bid, 96 asked. A telegram recelved yesterday from Superin- tendent Lyman of the Con. Cal. & Virginia stated that the output of the mlng for the week had been 141 tons, all_from the 1750 level, and the assay value we's $85 53 per ton. He will' resume the ex- traction of ore from the 1650 (ével this week. Work on the Branswick lode continues to pro- gress rapidly. The inclines and tunnel are being pushed in rapidly and a force of carpenters is at work on the two hoisting works. Altogether thirty-eight men are now employed at-the lode. NOTES.
