A Coffee- Pot Makes the Judge See Things Differently. On one occasion a gentleman had a dis- pute with a laborer over some trifling mat- ter, and the hired man made complaint to Judge Charles Reaume of Wisconsin, who began his judicial career in the latter part of the eighteenth century. The justice senta summons to the gentleman to ap- pear before him to answer the charge. In- stead of a writ on paper, with name and seal. the constable bore a large jackknife belonging to Reaume, which had often been made to serve tne same purpose.
