Succumbs at the French Hospital—Rep- resented the First Ward in the Last Board. Ex-Supervisor Michael Goodwin of the First Ward died at the new French Hos- pital about 11 A. M. yesterday of Bright’s disease of the kidneys, after a severe ill- Dess. Mr. Goodwin was in the last board, hav- ing been elected on the Democratic ticket over Edward Holland, and was chairman of the Fire and Water Committee. He wounld have been 63 years of age next month. His wife, a cousin of Thomas Carroll of 1206 Guerrero street, died a few years ago. 3 ° He came to this City early in the '50's from Rhode Island and started a grocery on Third street. After a while he went up into Trinity County and the Blue Moun- tains during the mining excitement there, and was elected County Clerk for one | term of that county over a strong Republi- can opponent. Since returning te San Francisco he has been engaged in a wholesale liquor busi- ness at 407 Battery street, making his home at the Commercial Hotel, and leaves behind an estate worth perhaps $60,000. His only relatives are two sistersanda brother at Pawtucket, R. L. He will be buried at Calvary Cemetery | from Mr. Carroll's residence Tuesday morning, mass to be performed at St. James Catbolic Church.
