July 6.—The stock market to-day was firm for the rallway issues and de- cidedly weak for Chicago Gas. The improvement 1n the raflway list ranged from 14 to 134 per cent, New England leading the upward movement. Other issues which were conspicuous for strength were Southern Railway, common and preferred, Lonisyille and Nashville, Kansas and Texas, and the grangers. CHICAGO, Iii., July 8.—King & Co.of Toledo {ssned & report very thoroughly embracing the six principal winter-wheat-growing Stites, which was to hand this morning. It principally reiterated previons statements on that grain, in so far predicting no more than half a-crop in the area covered. The crowd was disposed to do some buying on the information, as & consequence of which ke opening of the merket was firm. -Other news was not so bullish, however, and the strength was not maintafned. Liverpool quoted a decline of 14d, iving as a reason & movable prospect for the ‘rench crop. Bradstreet’s report of exports from both coasts for the week gave the mederate ship ments of 2,007,000 bushels. Recelpts were 26 cars for Chicago and 195 in the Northwest. With- drawals from store were 48,956 busbels. ‘A dispatch from the Liverpool Corn Trade News t0 the Daily Trade Bulletin gave a net increase of stocks of breadstuffs in and afloat for Europe dur- ing June of 2,900,000 bushels Argentine ship- ments last week were 992,000 bushels. The mar- ket firmed up during the morning on talk of hot winds dsmaging the spring wheat in the North- west. Closing Continental and English cables were lower.
