The case against Andrew Odum, colored, of Ballard county, charged with maliciously shooting at Lee Wil son, who lives in Kelley's alley, wt tried in the police court this morning and the preponderance of evidence showed that the defendant deliber- ately shot at the woman, after baying threatened to do it. He swore the shooting was accidental, He was held in the sum of $200 and in de- fault of bond went to jail, Robert Burnes,a sport from Wingo, was fined and sentenced to ten days in jail this jporning in Judge Sanders’ court. Burnes cae up yesterday and took aboard too much liquor. He sat on a box to doze, and Oiticer Fred Hoyer came along and saw the print of a pistol In the man’s pocket. He took charge of the culprit and foynd on bis person two bottles of whisky, @ pack of |Mayor Will Ask Permission to Haye Street Repairs Done. Money to Be Di cted From the Contractor's Pay—It May Cause Trouble, Mayor Lang will tonight ask the council to authorize the mayor sud street committee to repair the streets behind the sewer contractors @n:| « duct the amount of cost from the money due the contractors, This will insure the city better streets, bu’ may occasion trouble between (he city and contractors. The supposition that the contract ors have one year in which to. repail the streets is an error, They are re quired to keep them io repair f year after they have gone over them Some of the streets are in a very! shape, but the contractors say it i impossible to immediately place (hem in as good condition as they were be tore they were torn up. That it re quires time for them to do it, The contractors also clam that they will not agree for the city to de the repairing, end that if the city does it it will never collect the costs from them, as they will refuse to pay them.
