MORNING BLAZE, Double Tenement Frame House Partially Burned, At Noth and Jackson Streets— Several Hundred Dollars Damage. The fire department had a long, cold run at 5:30 o’clock this morn- in, It was called to Ninth and J u by a telephone alarm of fire, and found a big blaze at the double tenement two story frame residence on the Southeast corner of Niuth and Jackson, The house is owned by the Chuarch- hill heirs, with Quigley & Boone, agents, and was occupied by George Lee, ariver man, and family and Jack Mortbland, an N.C. & St. L.; freight conductor, and family, The blaze is supposed to have originated from a defective flue on the latter's side. The blaze gained quick head- way, and made @ bright light. ‘The fire laddies were forced to fight the flames with water that froze to them the moment it struck, and in a wind that felt below zero. The house, however, despites its combustble ma- terial and the wind, was only partial- ly destroyed. It was fully’ insured. The loss will amount to several hun- dred dollars. Campbell, col- ored, The blaze originated from a defective flue, and there was little damage.
