The unex- pected surprise cast a gloom over them that was perfectly justifiable, for they realized then for the first time that they had in a few hours been deprived of a means of liveli- hood, which, although it may be only temporary, is a hardship, Many of them lost tools, and the number of men and girls employed in the tory was 87. THE BUILDINGS The firm of Rehkopt & Sons has suffered many times from fire, but this morning's blaze was one of the worst. The collar factory had been located there since 1877, and it is the first time buildings on this site were destroyed. The first building erected was the middle one, in 1877, The building nearest the street was put up in 1881, and the last buil ling to go up was that in which the straw was stored, which was erected two years ugo. Allwere of brick, and the insurance was $5,000, MR.
