At Hartington and Plsmmnuth, Nebraska, two fine large buildings are now under construction; plans are being made for a hotel in Kansas City which will cost approxima a million dollars when completed, and at many points inclusive of an inberstate field, new buildings, which this Company is to erect, are being pl: —all of which is an attestation of the popularity of ‘‘Service’’ when applied to building. Specifically this ‘‘Service’’ saves a building client money—a great deal of money—and likewise insures a better building than can be con- ‘structed by the old method of building. This old method involves the services, separately given, of the architect, the contractor, the sub-contractor, the financial agent, the insurance man, and others too numerous to mention. They work, perforee, without knowledge one of the other—and the result is needless chaos and costliness. The two ideas are dissimilar in this one—of many-—respects. The old idea has it that the architect shall submit an estimate of cost which is not guaranteed, and that the building owner must bear any additional cost which the actual work creates. In this connection, figures compiled on business buildings by prominent insurance companies show that 96 such buildings out of every 100 exceed the architect’s estimated cost by 33 per cent. The new idea, our idea, stipulates a fixed price for any and all buildings.
