P Traffic Officials Say Busines: Never 8o Good as at the Present Time, AND NEBRASKA IS THE BEST “If you care to, you may say that business on the Pacific was never quite as good as at the present time and that if there is any one place where it is a little better than another, it is over the Nebraska division,” a serted H. M. Adams, general traffic manager, St. Louis, who, officials of the roud, is out on the annual fall visiting trip, getting ac- quainted with patrons of the prop- erty. In the Missouri Pacific party are the following: H. M. Adams, general traffic manager, St. Louis; C. E, Per- kins, freight traffic manager, St Louis; C. L. Stone, passenger traffic manager, St. Louis; A. T. Stewart, general freight agent, and R. T. G. Matthews, assistant general passenger agent, Kansas City. The Missouri huilc officials are traveling special and have been out some two weeks, having been over all of the western lines and are all traffic men. Being connected with this arm of the company service, none of them know anything officially con- | cerning the Dodge strect situation or)what is going to be done in the mhiter of elevating the Belt Line tracks. Nebraska's Big Crop, General Traffic Manager AdalusAis delighted with the Nebraska crop sit- vation, saying: “I had heard that Nebraska had a g(md crop, but I had an |dcn that the picture had been painted in a little too bright colors. However, I find that such is not the case, for from oing through a good many of the ?cllds and talking with farmers and others, I am satisfied that the state has raised one of the greatest corn crops in its history. Looking over the southern portion of the state, 1 find that a large crop of winter wheat is out, considerable of which is up high enough so that it covers the ground with a carpet of green, “Nebraska farmers) all along our lines are prosperous and have been making good money during the last year. They have had enormous quan- tities of farm produce to sell and have received high prices for everything sold. SHOW OPEN UNTIL 9 P. M. Before Closed the first annual Omaha Car Salon opened at the lrandeis stores Wednesday, some of the motor car men felt just a little bit dubious about the success of the show. The closed car show was an innovation and there was a feeling of misgiving. They weren't just sure that Omaha would take to the show, But when the first day of the ex- position was over shadows of doubt quickly vanished into thin air. For the Closed Salon was an unqu fied success. The attendance the first day was gratifyingly large. Of course it was impossible to keep any accurate ac- counting, but it is certain that several thqusand persons attended the dis- play. “l was really agreeably surprised,” declared Clarke Powell, secretary of the Omaha Automobile Show associa- tion, who heads the committee on ar- rangements of the Closed Car Salon too, “I didn’t expect to see such a big day opening day, because it is generally true .of such innovative events that the first day is a poor one, But the intense interest shown Wednesday upset the dope and proves that Omaha still holds its own as one of the Icadlng aulomoblle centers of the country.” Every other automobile man coie nected wtih the Salon echoes Powell's assertion that the Closed Car Salon has made itself an annual event in Omaha. Eighteen manufacturers are repre- sented at the Salon, showing the lat- est designs and models of %mpmved winter cars. The show continues every day this week from 8:30 in the morning until 9 o'clock at night. Open in the Evening. Wednesday evening several theater parties visited the Salon before at- tending the evening , performance. Among them were: Mesars. and Mesdamen— Hurry Weller, W. D, Hostord, Hlenn Wharton, . L. Alleman, Dra. and Mesdames— . 8. Owen, John Mach. J. J. MeMullen, Chicago Man Lost, Sought by Son Who Was Deserted Here | Frnnk Dorazno md his son Vito, aged 16 years of Chicago started from that city to seek employment on a sheep ranch at Baker, Mont. Wednes- day they stopped off at Council Bluffs and took a room at a Council Bluffs hotel. Inzthe night Vito awoke to find his father gone, and since then no trace of the man has been found, The boy had less than a dollar on his person, and came to Omaha, enteréd the Woodmen of the World Builuing and went upstairs with the intent o4 of sleeping in the lavatory, He was discovered by a woman, whose shrieks brought ~other occx- pants of the building, and he was turned over'to the police. He is being | cared for at the station while the aus thorities of both cities are looking for the missing parent. Three smaller | children and his wife constitute LFrank Dorazio’s family in Chicago. Is Missing Man the Vietim of Amnesm? Is John {) Mltchal a vigtim of am- nesia? Is he wandering about the country tnable to remember the past events of his life, his name and occu- pation? Or is the young watchman, who had been married onfy two years, at the bottom of the Missouri river? Mrs. Mitchel, wife of the missing man, cannot reconcile herself to the belief that her husband is dead. She prefers to think that he suffered a sudden loss of memory, a mental break that made him temporarily: un- able to recollect his former associa- tions, his home and even his young wife. In this belief she has the sym- pathy of some of the police, who know what freak tricks amnesia can make its victims do, It was only a suggestion which led the police to suspect that Mitchel met his death hy drowning. Early Tues- day morning his hat was found on the Union Pacific bridge. Inquiry at his home, 1009 Pacific street, revealed that he had not returned from his work as watchman. The first conclu- sion was that he had dropped off the bridge into the river. But all cfforts to locate further proof of his death in this manner have been futile. Heavy charges of dynamite have been blown in the river and big grappling hooks have dragged its bottom. But the search has been of no avail. Mitchel has disappeared a§ completely as though the earth had yawned and swallowed him. Demand for Labor Larger Than Supply The prosperity of Omaha is even reflected through the Salvation A according to Captain Kline, who s s that he cannot supply the dennd for labor. “We have fifty per cent more calls each day than we can handle. Our greatest problem is 10 find men able to do much of the v offered,” he said, “as man laborers ane convalescing {};um erations.” Adjutant La Plant of Sioux (it will replace Adjutant Ellwood, was given a two months' vacation following a nervous breakdown.
