RESULT OF TRAIN POLLS (From a Staff Correspondent.) Lincoln, Oect. 21.—(Special.)— Changes which mean a great deal to the chances of Hughes carrying Ne- braska are apparent all along the line, according to Judge A. L. Sut- ton, republican candidate for gover- nor, who was in Lincoln today and called at republican headquarters. “The republican ticket will surely be elected from top to bottom,” said the judge. “I have been especially pleased with the sentiment in favor of taking the state out of democratic hands and putting it in the hands of the republicans, The Hughes senti- ment is gaining every day and should be sufficient to ‘carry him across as far as Nebraska is concerned, when election day comes. Crowds at Meetings. “We have been drawing good crowds in most of the places where we have spoken. The voters are be- ginning to take more interest in the campaign than was at first apparent, which in itself is a indicatioo that the republican ticket is gaining.” 'ollng of trains, according to re- ts coming to the republican state eadquarters is continuing to show a decided Hughes trend. G. 0. P. SENTIMENT GROWS Elgin, Neb., Oct. 21.—(Special.)— Although the highways in Pierce, An- telope and Knox counties are made quite impassable because of the snow and rain of the last day or two, the campaign of John L. Kennedy, repub- lican candidate for United States senator, and William P. Warner, re- publican candidate for congress from the Third district continued yester- day without great change in the itinerary, and they arrived here last night by automobije from the north- ern part of Antelope county accom- & panied by George N. Seymour, repub- lican candidate for regent of the Uni- versity of Nebraska, and Rollie Huff- man of Elgin, who had met them at Brunswick, and held a lively and largely attended political rally in the New Community hall. Mr. Seymour presided and intro- duced Mr. Kennedy and Mr. Warner with a very pleasant and instructive speech which was much appreciated by both audience and candidates. Antelope County Stirred. The Oakdale band furnished a musi- cal progtam of popular and patriotic selections and added to the gayety of the occasion. The Oakdale band is one of the best bands in the state. It was to have accompanied the speak- ers over the county today, but the bad roads made it impossible for them to do so. Antelope county has, however, been greatly stirred by to- day’s campaign and a growing inter- est in the coming election is notice- able on all sides, While Mr, Kennedy and Mr. Warner are assured of a Fn" vote here, it is generally be- ieved that Judge A. L. Sutton will carry the county by a substantial ma- jority and that Mr. Hughes will run especially strong. | County Candidates Travel. Others who have accompanicd Messrs, Kennedy and Warner today are John H, Recroft, candidate for clerk of the district court; G. E. Thofnton; candidate for county treas- urer; Perry H. Peterson, candidate for county clerk; Lewis D. Curtis, candidate for county superintendent; Lyle E. Jackson, candidate for county attorney, and S. I. Nies’ member of the congressional committee, The day's campaign started in Wi in the morning when the can- s were conducted about the town by F. E. Anderson and P, A. Anthony. . Because of trains being snow bound, it was impuossible for Mr, Warner’and Mr. Kennedy to ake their schedule of towns yester- ay and Jackson, Ponca, Allen, Dixon, Laurel and Coleridge were .reached only by telephone, although many of the voters have come in to attend meetings at other points along .the line. Stops were made at Meadow Grove ‘and Battle Creek and a night meeting was held at Madison. All along the line there is growing enthusiasm among the re- publicans.
