ENCELL'S LETTER, Speaking of the Palm Beach Farims company lands, Encell says: “They have some fine land for sale Land &8 good a8 my own and soms bot- and like land on which I have pro- |)u' «d in 1916 net, over fourteen thousand from elghtoen acres ($14,000). In that vear I eold over ten thousand crates oi beppers, which sold at from three to seven dollars & crate.” Mr. Encell'ls chairman ef the board ol commissioners of Palm Beach county. Another satistied client says: I have always noticed the interest dis. played by the several parties that you had on my bean patch in the past few days and thought that you would porsibly lixe a report on this field. I planted these beans about 70 days ago and have been picking sincs January 3. Up to the present time I have sold about 2,300 hampers of beans and they have ranged in price from $2.60 to $4.00 per hamper. During the first week 1 picked one thousand and twenty-three hampers, which were sold at $2.50 to $4.00 per_hamper, The field contains thirteon acres and ls located on section 36, back of Deerfield. I consider this very good citrus land. The land is also well adapted to truk garden- ing, being known as a cubbage palm hammock, I think T will net at least $3,600 from my bean patch this year from all present indications. This fs certainly a good profit, for the length of time that It takes to plant and mature the crop, and I am well satisflied with the result Yours very truly, (Signed) C. ALL ENTRIES IN THE BARNS Maybe the huge, sleek-looking pork- ers, pampered as much as an oil bamn's favorite daughter, didn’t ap- preciate the applause accorded them when they were led out into the ex- hibition rings at the National Swine show. But their owners did, and if ever a porcine stock exhibitor seeking hon- ors for his herd prides at the differ- ent shows in the country wished to make a good impression with his stock, it is in Omaha at the first an- nual National Swine exposition that his ambitions reached their apex: The second morning of the five days' show found all the entries in the big horse barns on the South Side. There are hogs here from the east, west, south and north; in fact, every swine raising state in the union i8 represented with its choicest porkers —show animals that have “cleaned up” at all the state and sectional shows and are meeting for hogdom’s final decision as to the grand cham- pions of all breeds. Towan Captures First. Judging of aged Poland-China and Duroc - Jersey boars started soon after the doors opened on the second day of the show. Owners of the winners in this class of Poland-China breed are as follows: Fred Srivens, Audubon, I lrlt. J. C. Meese, Ord, Neb., secon: J Graham, Howard Lake, Minn,, third; Alvin Wrudow, Noraway, Ia., fourth; Morris Lagoni, Hampton, Ia, fifth; I. J. Gallagher, North Bend, Neb.. sixth; J. D. McDonald, North Bend, Wis., seventh; John H. Andersen, Manilla, Ta;, elghth . The great host of breeders visiting = |the show from every state in the union where they have hogs/in any way, shape or form, is unanimous it the ex- pression that - this swine exylmon surpasses beyond comparis: any event of its kind in the country’s his- tory. There have been only two swine shows of anywhere near national scope—one at the St. Louis exposi- tion and the other at the Chicago world's fair—and neither of them were of such magnitude as to seriously chal- Ienge in comparison the local classic, seorge M Cantrall, treasurgr of the National Swine Growers’ asiocia- tion and one of the oldest hog show men in the United States, couldn't testrain his bubbling over enthusiasm as to the quality of the hogs here. All Blood Lines Here. “I didn't believe it pouib!e," com- mented Mr, Cantrall, ‘that such a high class and complete array of hogs from every important blood ling in the country could be assembled under one room. There has never been a hog shcw to compare with this one. Every ‘m-edcr here has remarked that, Some of the nationally known breeders and show men spending most of their time about the show rings ar J. J. McLain of Anna, Texas, presi- dent of the National Duroc-Jerse Record association; J. Young Caldwell of Willlamsville, lll., vice president of the National Swine Growers associa- tion, who is also showing hogs; Wil- liam Reed, Rose Hill, la., one of the Hawkeye state’s big &reederl; Frank P. Reed, a leader in the hog business :nhLouisiann, his home being at Talu- lah. The oEeninz day's attendance ex- ceeded the expectations of the show officials, a fact, it is believed, that forecasts record-breaking crowds later in the week. The huge horse barns, models in ventilation, lighting and heating, con- structed of concrete and steel throughout, make for ideal National Swing Show facilities, Pictures of Former Governors Are Hung Over Omaha Streets The following is a list of the names of the illuminated pictures of former Nebras' a governors which have been hung along .the streets for the Ak- Sar-Ben season.
