WOULD RUN AGAIN ISLM THI ROUL LHODOUE TUOM, | JUIPISALG I0) FAVPIPURY off 0 soxr ) Surde] s] Jeuwomwuty) uwojdurgsey 3¢ SUBIONIOL HINGTON, Dec. 10.—(Spe-| cial Telegram.)—Spicy political gos- sip following on the democratic na- | tionaltional committee here, tells more strongly than ever of the con- viction of a large share of the mem- | bers of the committee and of the po~' litical leutenants of the administra- tion, that William J. Bryan is getting ready to run for president against Wilson. It became known today the most im- portant topic of discussion under the surface at the meting of the committes was the plan of Bryan. The most as- tute of the politiclans declared Bryan was taking a course that could mean only one thing, that he would contest with Wilson for the nomination, provided it looked as If a democratic adminis- tration was probable for the four years. The fact that Charles Bryan, brother of the Commoner, has recently refrained from signing the Wilson petition in Ne- braska has not escaped attention here. The various activities of the former secretary of state are being carefully watched by the political aldes of the White House Moreover, it {s known in inside circles that they are glving the White House u lot of worry. It is feared that Bryan is prepared to go the limit in his opposition to the president and that If things do not go his way at 5t Louis next June, he may even lead a bolt and try to rend asunder President Wilson Sends in Names of Number of Postmasters for State. ONE SEAMAN I8 SLIGHTLY HURT WASHINGTON, Dec. 10.—The American tank steamer Petrolite, at- tacked Sunday in the eastern Medi- terranean by an Austrian submarine, arrived safely at Algiers today with the report that the submarine fore- ibly took its provisions, Arrival of the tanker was reported to the State department late today in o consular dispatch from Algiers. It sald the captain told of being shelled when nineteen hours out of Alex- andria by a submarine flying the Austrian flag, which allowed him to proceed after examining his papers and seizing a quantity of provisions, One seaman was slightly injured by a shell fragment. ‘The report did not say whether the steamer was warned and ordered to halt before the submarine opened fire, On this question will hinge largely the nature of any representations which may be made by the United States to Austria. The selzure of provisions, however, s likely to be the subject of a vigorous protest regardless of what happened be- fore the tanker came to a atop and sub- mitted to visit and searc!
